The Immaculate Concepcion of the Virgin Mary is a Roman Catholic Church in the Municipality of Baclayon, Bohol. It is one of the oldest historical church in Bohol and is also one of the main tourist attraction in Baclayon. The Church was formally built by Priest Gabriel Sanchez and Priest Juan Dela Torres in 1596. The Church was elevated as a parish in 1717 and the present coral stone and church was finished in 1727. The Augustinian recollect succeed the Jesuits in 1768. During the world war the church suffered damages but was later restore.
Last October 2013 the 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck in Bohol. Many churches damaged. One of the churches sustain damaged is the this Church. They started restored in 2013. It finished in 2017. They reopened the church to the public in February 2018.
While they restored the Church. The mass temporary held in the corner of the church for almost 4 years.
What’s in Baclayon Church Bohol ?
Beside in the Church is the museum which is called Baclayon Museum. Aside from the centuries old the church which deluged by tourist almost daily. Museum is likewise a tourist destination. In fact, a visit to the church is not complete without stop-over at the museum.
The religious artifacts are displayed such as ecclesiastical vestments embroidered with gold, ivory images of Jesus, the Holy family and the saints plus animal covered hymnals with pages made of sheep skin and ink taken from plant sap. The museum charges a minimal entrance fee cost of P50 per person.
How to get to there ?
Its only 6 Km from Tagbilaran City. Very accessible by bus, jeep, hired van and private ride.
When you ride a jeep from Tagbilaran City to the Church, it only costs 8 pesos while tricycle costs about 50-100 pesos and if you ride a bus just 10 pesos is enough and you can enjoy and explore the town of Baclayon.
